Q(1). How do I know about the details of the post for which recruitment is notified?

The notification showing the name of the post, qualification, vacancy details, etc. can be seen on this website as well as in Newspapers of Zonal jurisdiction. Indicative notification drawing attention to the detailed notification is also published in Employment News.

Q(2). What is the frequency of holding examinations?

As per existing rules, the vacancy notification would be published once in 2 years. But this is subject to modifications.

Q(3). How to get application form? Is there any laid down format which is to be adhered to?

The application form and format for different certificates required such as for SC, ST, OBC, etc. are published in the Employment Notification and can also be downloaded from this site.

Q(4). What care I should take while filling up the application form?

Detailed employment notification must be read carefully before filling up the form. Attach all the attested copies of the relevant and required certificates; ensure that proper fee is submitted through IPO or Demand Draft from a nationalised bank. Make sure that you have filled in all the required details in the application form in the format prescribed.

Q(5). What is the amount and mode of payment of application fee?

For SC, ST, Ex-Servicemen and for the physically handicapped candidates there is no application fee. For all others it is Rs. 40 only (forty rupees only). The application fee can be submitted in the form of IPO or Demand Draft. IPO or the DD should not be of a date prior to the date of notification. The Demand Draft should be from a nationalised bank with a validity of not less than 6 months. Cash or Money Order or any other form of fee is not acceptable.

Q(6). How should I send the money to the Railway Recruitment Cell?

The duly filled in application form along with copies of relevant certificates and photograph, complying with the requirements as laid down in the employment notification should be sent either through ordinary post or dropped in the specific box provided at the office of Railway Recruitment Cell. Application sent through Speed-Post, Registered Post or Courier will not be acknowledged.

Q(7). How do I know the schedule of the examination and the centre allotted?

The schedule of examination would be published in the newspapers of zonal jurisdiction, employment notice and on this website. Railway Recruitment Cell also sends Call Letters to the eligible candidates under UPC for the examination. The Call Letters are sent to the candidates one month before the scheduled date of examination.

Q(8). What if I don't receive any communication from the RRC for the examination?

You can know the status of your application on this website or contact Railway Recruitment Cell, East Central Railway, Hajipur on telephone numbers listed in Contact Us section of this website. As per schedule published in newspapers and on website, a special enquiry counter is also made operational prior to the date of written examination to assist the candidates.

Selection Procedure

The selection process is subject to rules and regulations issued/mailed by the General Manager, East Central Railway and Ministry of Railways (Railway Board, Govt. of India) which includes reservation of jobs for certain castes or communities such as the Scheduled Caste (SC), Schedule Tribe (ST), Other Backward Classes (OBC), etc.

Employment notification calling for applications from eligible candidates is published in newspapers of zonal jurisdiction of East Central Railway (comprising of Divisional HQ at Dhanbad, Mughalsarai, Danapur, Sonepur, Samastipur and other workshops as well as the extra divisional units). Indicative notifications for the same is also published in the Employment News and two national dailies.

The time period given to apply in response to notifications is not less than 30 days. The applications received in the time period prescribed are scrutinized with reference to criteria published in the notification.

Schedule of written examination is generally spread over entire East Central Railway. Important towns where examination is likely to be held are Patna, Muzaffarpur, Samastipur, Dhanbad, Sonepur, Mughalsarai, etc. However, East Central Railway can also tie-up with other Railways to provide centres if the need arises.

List of candidates successful in the written examination is published in the newspapers, on Internet and these candidates are also advised by Post.

Successful candidates are then tested for Physical Efficiency as per criteria given in the employment notification, subject to modification by Ministry of Railway. Physical Efficiency Test (PET) is qualifying in nature.

Candidates declared successful in PET are then subjected to Medical Examination of relevant category.

Final panel is then formed as per merit and the requirements applicable as per the reservation policy.
